Michael Schumacher prepared for ‘success or failure’ in 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG Petronas driver, Michael Schumacher has said that there will be a slight margin between becoming a ‘hero or zero’ in the forthcoming 2012 F1 season starting on March 18, 2012 at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia while he says that he is well
prepared for a close tussle with other drivers on the grid.
Veteran German driver with record championship victories, Schumacher made his comeback in F1 during 2010 season which did not quite prove out to be successful for him. However, in the following season, he managed to improve his performance and did reasonably
well as compared to the preceding one.
During 2011, Mercedes finished at fourth position in the constructors’ championship but the team’s performance was way behind the top three rivals at the end of the season.
Schumacher expected to have a closer tussle behind the defending champions Red Bull Racing which he believed was the favourite team for the victory at the season opener.
“Victory for me is unlikely, I see Red Bull in front,” he told his official website. “Behind them it will be tight, and you can be either hero or zero very quickly. It will come down a lot to the ability of how well you will be setting up your car to the
respective track.”
Nevertheless, Schumacher feels confident as this year’s pre-season testing programme went superb for Mercedes, compared to the last couple of years since his arrival in the team.
Moreover, he said that the new car W03 had proved out to be quite reliable for the upcoming season and they had collected a lot of data regarding the car for making the essential preparations before the first race.
“We were driving out of the box with the car and everything went well, so there is potential. We are heading into the season much better prepared than in the past two years, and we can fully concentrate onto the development of our car,” said Schumacher.
In addition, he expressed that the pace of the car was dependable and he expected they could manage to show it in first GP at Melbourne.
