Michael Schumacher prepared to enjoy his last race before retirement – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher, who drives for Mercedes AMG presently, has plans to enjoy his last race at Brazil before he retires at the end of this season.
“Interlagos is the right place to round off my career because so much of the fascination of Formula One is rooted there,” Schumacher said. “I always enjoy the enthusiasm of the fans, and it's simply a great circuit which has seen many memorable events and
always produces spectacular races as the unique layout guarantees plenty of action. For me, it's also the circuit that brings back my memories of Ayrton.”
Schumacher had announced to retire from the race once before at the end of 2006 when he was driving for the Ferrari team. He says that he was not able to enjoy that last race as he was too focused on winning the drivers’ championship that year.
He added, “This time round, I will be able to pay more attention to my farewell and hopefully savour it too.”
In his last race with Ferrari, the driver had been looking forward to winning his eighth title, having won the seventh one in 2004, but lost the fight to Fernando Alonso.
Schumacher has been in Formula 1 for more than twenty years and says that these have been fantastic years of his life. F1 fans from all around the world have shown their continued appreciation for him, even during the lack of his performance after his return
to Mercedes in 2010, for which he is extremely thankful. He expects to thank them in a proper fashion by bringing forth his best performance for the last time and will do his best to make that possible.
He was earlier questioned if he will return to the sport as an advisor for Mercedes as he had done with Ferrari but he answered in negative. Presently, he has no specific plans and only the future will tell but this time the retirement is ultimate.
The German driver had returned in hopes of another title but he could not achieve that target. However, he admits to be satisfied with the last three years and that they have brought positive things to his life.
