Michael Schumacher racing against age
The Former Formula One driver, Johnny Herbert declared earlier today that Michael Schumacher is just a good driver as he has always been but now he is racing with a smarter new generation of younger drivers.
The seven-time World Champion returned to the Formula One world this season after having stayed away from the track for three years. His tie with Mercedes GP, the winner of both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ title last year, under the title of
Brawn GP, was embraced whole heartedly by everyone. However, the team failed to provide him with a competitive car while the driver failed to get the best out of what he got.
Now, as the driver is about to wrap up the season at 9th place in the Drivers’ Championship, his old teammate said that this finish does not say that he is no more the same good driver, rather the competition now is different for him than a few
years back.
He said that the driver is still undoubtedly the most skilful man on the track but his current car makes it tougher for him to beat men who are far younger than him. Herbert explained saying, "He hasn't been in the best car and when he was at Ferrari it
was effectively the best car. This time he clearly hasn't got that but of course this time he has been outshone by his team-mate Nico Rosberg who has been maybe ninety to ninety five per cent quicker than Michael all year long, so we haven't seen the Michael
of old but I think it's because we're seeing a new generation of drivers coming along.”
All through the season the racing icon got a lot of criticism for his poor finishes but he kept insisting that it’s his car and especially the new Bridgestone tyres that do not allow him to deliver the best on the track. However, this excuse was completely
dismissed by the critics who argue that his teammate, Nico Rosberg bagged 130 points with the same car while he managed 72 only.
Now, his old teammate came forward for his defence explaining that Vettel or Rosberg are new ‘young chargers’ and they have given the sport a new dimension which was not present at Schumacher’s times.
Moreover, three years is a long time for Formula One world which moves as fast as its cars. Still, Herbert believes that once in a better car, Schumacher undoubtedly would be able to challenge all his rivals once again.
