Michael Schumacher ready for his 20-year mark race at Spa-Francorchamps – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher has recently stated that he is hoping for the best possible results at his first race after his 20th anniversary in Formula 1 which is expected to take place at the Spa-Francorchamps for
the Belgian Grand Prix.
“The race in Spa will certainly have a special touch to it this time, as this is where I drove my first ever Formula One race 20 years ago. It's hard to believe that this was such a long time ago. A lot has changed in those 20 years, but one thing has not:
the track is still sensational,” he said.
Schumacher joined the sport in 1991 and drove his first Formula 1 race at Spa for team Jordan but failed to finish the race as he retired out of the race without even completing a single lap.
Despite this disappointing start to a phenomenal career, the seven-time world champion loves Spa and back then, no one knew that a driver like Schumacher would break all the records in the sport and create almost unachievable boundaries for the rest of the
drivers in the sport.
Other than that, he stated that he cannot thank his fans enough who have always been loyal and supportive throughout his career.
“To me, Spa remains my 'living room', because it has been the stage for so many things which have been remarkable for my sporting career. This is why this time I would like to specifically send a big thank you to all my fans for their loyalty and support,
which I was happy to receive during those 20 years and also since my comeback,” he added.
Nevertheless, the 42-year old driver is still determined about racing and claims that he is here to stay and that he will not leave Formula 1 until Mercedes GP becomes a race winning team and achieves its goals.
Despite the fact that Schumacher is struggling to perform since his return, the team has been quite supportive for him and they also want him to stay at least until the end of 2012.
