Michael Schumacher receives full backing from Mercedes: Formula 1 News
Mercedes' driver, Michael Schumacher, still has full Mercedes GP team support, after his poor start in 2011 season. The team believes that he is still capable to produce a positive run on the grid, as he is a strong driver of the sport.
He had a difficult race in Turkey. However, after a disappointing Istanbul race, he received full backing from the Petronas-sponsored team for his upbeat results in the remaining races of this season.
The seven-time world champion again missed out on the supportive points in Turkey after losing his time early on in an awful collision with Renault’s Vitaly Petrov, which required him to make a spontaneous pit stop for a new front wing of MGP-W02 car.
However, that collision left Schumacher too far, losing the order to join the challenging battle for his encouraging points. Even though, the analysis of his upgraded car's pace in Istanbul race distance showed that it was much better than many of the other
F1 cars that finished in the top 10.
After the race, there was speculation that this race weekend did not deliver a ‘big joy’ to the German and also could not enjoy his outing with the team. However, Mercedes could be forced itself to rethink the Schumacher’s place in the team, in the next
races of ongoing season.
Mercedes motorsport boss, Norbert Haug said, “When success is missing, then criticism is a fact of life. When, a seven-time world champion like Michael Schumacher doesn't achieve success, criticism rains down upon him.”
Haug analysis the Schumacher lap times, which he finished in practice session and Sunday race. He added that, it shows that he had a good race pace, until his collision. However, without the time he subsequently lost due to this incident, he was fast enough
to end his race at sixth and seventh place.
He said that a good pace in race is not ‘wishful’ thinking, it a fact and part of any racing game. The speed depends on the driver’s potential and the race results always follow of his own accord.
Mercedes believed in its both drivers, Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. They have again put the team on the fifth spot in Turkey, after the China race. Due to its driver’s positive performance in recent race, the team is just focusing to achieve their targets.
Haug further added, “The fact that the 14 laps he led in China also currently put him equal second in this ranking, illustrates how dominant Sebastian Vettel in his Red Bull has been so far this year.”
The next race of this season is to be held on May 22, in Spain.
