Michael Schumacher remains positive despite his disappointing start - Formula 1 Update
Formula 1 Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher is still looking forward to a successful Sepang race despite of his poor start in the Australian Grand Prix.
The seven-time World Champion, Schumacher really wants to do his best in Malaysia because he knows the team was greatly discouraged among the strong rivals of Formula 1 during the Melbourne race.
Both drivers, Schumacher and Nico Rosberg took part in the Australia race with high expectations, but due to having some technical faults in their MGP-W02 machine they were retired from the race. The Mercedes team had a very discreet qualifying session,
but due to these problems they were found unable to score any points for the team.
Schumacher said, "We clearly see that as a challenge and it is much too early to write us off. Everybody in the team remains positive and is in a fighting mood. So I expect a better weekend for us to come; a weekend we can build on."
Before the start of Australia race event, the 42-year-old German expressed his positive feelings for the 2011 Formula 1 season and admitted that he is very hopeful for his initial races of his season, as he really worked hard and completed successful test
sessions for the team. He further added that he is confident for this season, having learnt the very complex features, which included a moveable rear wing and the Kinetic Energy Recovery System of the new car.
On the other hand, he highly appreciated the team’s hard work and cooperation, as he admitted that being a part of this team he has a responsibility of putting up a good show for Mercedes over the season.
During the winter testing, the new car experienced several issues and the team admitted that for the 2011 season they will have to do more work to get their new MGP-W02 car up to speed.
The team boss Ross Brawn said, "Our priority since Melbourne has been to regroup back at our factories, to review the weekend in detail, and to establish the best way to achieve the full potential of the car from Malaysia onwards.”
He went on to say, "We suffered a number of problems which resulted in a far-from-optimum car for qualifying and the race. How we respond to the disappointment of Melbourne, and the challenges we faced, will be a true measure of our team."
He was satisfied with the good working of his car’s Kinetic Energy Recovery System. Brawn also commented that the team still needed some effort for putting everything together, in the remaining part of the season.
It is a big challenge for the Mercedes team to win the 2011 title because they are using some advanced features for the first time on the grid. The Malaysian Grand Prix will start on 10 April, at the Sepang circuit.
