Michael Schumacher says F1 comeback was led by test ban – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Michael Schumacher has disclosed that he made his comeback into Formula 1 because of the testing ban.
Seven-time world champion Schumacher made his return to F1 couple of years back with the Mercedes team, after he took his retirement in 2006. The first year of his comeback did not prove out to be well and he struggled throughout the season while completely
outperformed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
However, in the next year, the veteran German improved his performance and took fourth position at the Canadian Grand Prix while his teammate, Rosberg could only manage to take fifth position at his best at Chinese and Turkish Grands Prix.
Moreover, Schumacher said that racing was his passion and at the same time as he said that he had not stopped enjoying his personal life.
“Because racing is my passion,” he insisted. “And anyway it doesn’t mean I have to stop enjoying my life with my family.”
Furthermore, he said that the year of his return was very much less time-consuming as compared to his prior career in which they used to have testing session after every single race throughout the year. He also said that he could found a reasonable amount
of time for his private life.
“When I came back again, one of the reasons (for the decision) was that formula one is much less time-consuming as it was in my ‘first career’. Then, we had testing after each race, now – during the season – there is not. I have plenty of time for my family,”
said Schumacher.
In addition, he said that he would never have made his return to F1 if he couldn’t manage to get the time for his family.
Schumacher’s contract with Mercedes will be expired at the end of this season and when he was asked about whether he would take into account going back to the Scarlet team which he had pulled out of crisis during the years of his career highlights, he said,
“Let’s just say this. The probability that I will end my career with a team other than Mercedes is so exceedingly low that I don’t need to even think about it.”
