Michael Schumacher says Sebastian Vettel will be the next German Mister F1 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher thinks that Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing will become the next German Mister F1 as Vettel is all set to win his third consecutive title.
Vettel has not been nicknamed as ‘baby Schumi’ just for nothing. Not only does he share his German nationality with Schumacher but also on his way to break the former champion’s streak of winning five titles in a row. Vettel has been performing really well
in the current season with having won all of the last three races. Since Red Bull has the quickest and strongest car on the grid at present, it will be no wonder if the driver wins the title which will become his third consecutive championship.
Schumacher, who has decided to retire at the end of this season with no plans to return to the sport this time, holds the Red Bull driver in high respect.
“Sebastian is an obvious role model. I also think he will win this year's title; he has the right conditions for it. In the long term, I think he should go on to become Germany's Mister Formula One,” he told a German daily.
Schumacher won seven world titles in his career, the last one being in 2004. He retired in 2006 only to return back with Mercedes for a three year deal. Ever since his return, the German legend has not been able to perform well. He was only able to make
a podium finish only once since he came back for which he feels pleased as he thinks it lowered down the speculation around his poor performance. He admits to have learnt a lot from his experience of coming out of retirement. He advises other retired drivers
not to make the same mistake as he did. He insists that he has changed in certain ways.
“Yes and no. As a person, I am still the same as before, but I've learned to be more open and not to despair of the difficult situations, but to understand them,” he said. “It has given me a certain looseness that people have noticed.”
Schumacher says that he has ‘taken the blinkers off’ with which he used to walk around the pits.
