Michael Schumacher says he has no plans after his retirement at the end of 2012 – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has said that he has made no plans to follow after his retirement at the end of the 2012 Formula 1 season and asserted that he only wants to enjoy his freedom.
Schumacher announced that he will say goodbye to F1 at the conclusion of this season after the news of McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Brackley based team was confirmed.
Afterwards, the team principal of the Silver Arrows, Ross Brawn paid tribute to the seven-time world champion and said that he is surely the greatest driver.
Furthermore, the veteran German driver said that even though he has struggled in most of the race after his return to the sport but he is not feeling disappointed as he has achieved so much in his career so far and is extremely happy with his overall accomplishments.
Although, he has been offered a race seat in Sauber for the next year as their driver, Sergio Perez is going to join McLaren in the next season as Hamilton’s replacement. However, he said that he doesn’t want to be a part of the sport anymore and insisted
that he is looking forward to spend time at his home with his family.
In addition, he said that he has experienced F1 from a different side during the last couple of years and is feeling satisfied with his performance.
“For me, there is nothing better than being at home - for me, this means freedom and I want to enjoy that again soon,” Schumacher was quoted by Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, “The plan is that there is no plan. I experienced F1 from
a different perspective [with Mercedes] and, now, I'm more open and relaxed.”
“I have developed personally [in the last few years], and I'm different now. I've reached out to the people, and had them come closer to me and, in my later life, that is incredibly important. I am going out with my head held high,” he added.
Though, he will leave F1 after this season but his he will always be remembered as the greatest racing driver of the century.
