Michael Schumacher says he is excited about double DRS zone for Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has said that he is very excited about the double Drag Reduction System zone in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
It is for the first time in the 2011 season that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has allowed the teams to use the DRS twice every lap over the next race- once in front and the second time on the back straight of the Montreal circuit.
The 42-year-old driver has already won the race seven times on this track. He said, “We have the two DRS zones this year for the first time, so it will be interesting to see the impact that this makes.”
The seven-time world champion went on to add, “It is really difficult to have an idea of how our car will perform in Montreal. There is no doubt that Monaco was a tough weekend for the team but, as always, we will learn our lessons and be ready to fight
again in Canada.”
The Petronas-sponsored team’s driver believes the race will be very interesting at both the DRS zones, as there will be more overtaking chances among the participating drivers.
Schumacher is still unable to make an impact in the ongoing season. In the recently held Monaco Grand prix, he took a strong start as he successfully finished the free practice sessions and qualifying rounds. However, the race day proved unlucky for him,
as he did not gather his best run on the grid against the strong rivals.
Despite an unproductive run in this season, the German received full backing from Mercedes, as they believe that he is still a strong driver in Formula 1.
The team boss Ross Brawn discussed the upcoming race weekend and said that they are focusing on bringing the new upgrades in their MGP-W02 car for the Montreal race. However, he said that the drivers have to work hard over there and must perform well for
the team.
The Canadian Grand Prix will take place on June 12, 2011. Let’s see if Schumacher is able to impress there.
