Michael Schumacher says he is more mature after his three years with Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher, who has recently retired from F1, has stated that his last three years with Mercedes have made him more mature than before.
“It has been an interesting time as a human in particular,” Schumacher told RTL. “As a human if you can go through difficult times and you can sustain and you can actually grow and develop yourself still that is what makes you even stronger. And that's what
I feel; I feel like a much more mature person, much more open, much more easygoing than I ever have been before with maybe not having the success that I was wishing for.”
The German also told that he has been learning new things his entire career. Schumacher said that he has learned from every driver in the paddock; he tries to figure out what the other driver is doing different than him and then improve his own driving.
He told that F1 is a sport where you have to improve yourself continuously; it is not about suddenly achieving something epic but a combination of little details.
Schumacher had announced his retirement once before in 2006. At that time, he was diving for Ferrari and chasing his eighth championship against Fernando Alonso. During his years of absence from driving, he remained an advisor at Ferrari and his work involved
picking out new drivers for the team. He also participated in various motor cycling competitions during that time.
He returned to F1 with a three-year deal with Mercedes in 2010 in hopes of winning the eighth title that he failed to achieve in 2006. However, he lacked in performing in his usual way ever since his return. His Mercedes car was also not as competitive as
the other teams. His only achievement was a single podium finish. In September, Lewis Hamilton announced his transfer from McLaren to Mercedes and Schumacher announced his second and final retirement soon after.
Schumacher has won seven F1 championships and also holds the record of winning them consecutively five times from year 2000 to 2004. The driver has stated that he has signed a contract to become a test driver for Karting.
