Michael Schumacher says he will complete three-year contract with Mercedes GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher has said that he will complete his three-year deal with his current team which will end following the 2012 season.
Schumacher added that he is feeling good with the team and that he wants to achieve his goals by staying with it.
There were rumours about the seven-time world champion that he will retire at the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season and after that, will work as the brand ambassador of Mercedes GP. Despite of these speculations, Schumacher told the media that he will complete
his deal with the team.
The 42-year-old driver said, “I always had the option to stop at any time I wanted. But I aim for an achievement and a fixed time. I have always said it's a three-year programme and that's what it is. I feel good first of all, and you always improve. In
all my first 16 years of F1 I always have felt that I constantly developed.”
The Petronas-sponsored team driver is still unable to finish his race on the podium in the ongoing season. The German mentioned that the reason of his disappointing run during his races was the unsupportive role of his MGP-W02 car. After coming out of retirement
in the 2010 season, he is still making improvements in terms of his performance.
The Mercedes driver further added, “If you achieve that you can be happy about yourself, if not you can be unhappy. You keep working. You know that only through work and steady development you may arrive back to the top as it happened to me in the past.
There is no magic to arrive up front.”
The team boss Ross Brawn is still expecting a strong performance from Schumacher for the rest of the season, as he believes the German can make improvements in his races.
The ninth round of the season will commence from Friday, July 8, 2011 at the Silverstone racetrack. Let’s see how Mercedes perform over there following their disappointing European Grand Prix.
