Michael Schumacher scores fastest time at testing in Jerez
The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher scored the fastest time and led the timesheets of the second day of the second pre-season Test session that took place in Jerez.
The German scored a time of 1:20.532 and it seems that he was feeling quite comfortable in the new Mercedes car for the first time now. Felipe Massa, who scored the fastest time on the first day of testing in Jerez, scored the second fastest
time just 0.0061 seconds slower than Michael.
Jenson Button followed them in third place almost half a second slower than Michael Schumacher’s time. Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari finished fourth fastest driver while Red Bull Racing team’s Mark Webber finished in fifth place on the
second day of testing.
Vitaly Petrov finished out of the top 5 as they finished in ninth place and it is expected that the Renault might sign Nick Heidfeld as a replacement for Robert Kubica who went through a terrible accident during a rally event last weekend.
Nevertheless, Michael gave an impressive performance and the fans were obviously delighted with this result. The German was unable to perform up to his fans’ expectations in 2010, after he returned to the sport after three years. Michael
finished in ninth place in the drivers’ standings while his teammate Nico Rosberg finished in seventh place using the same car as Schumacher.
The fans expected that Schumacher would once again win races after his return but, unfortunately, he was unable to score a single podium throughout the 2010 Formula 1 season.
However, it is expected that since Team Mercedes has built its 2011 car according to Michael’s likings, the German would once again be a tough and active competitor for the titles but one cannot strike out Nico Rosberg as a potential contender
for the titles as well.
It is going to be interesting to see how the two Mercedes drivers perform in 2011, as it is expected that Team Mercedes is going to be one of the top running teams of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
