Michael Schumacher scores the fastest time on Day-4 of the final pre-season test session in Barcelona
Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher scored the fastest time of the morning at the 4th day of the final pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona on the 11th of March. Mercedes was not looking very good in the pre-season test sessions up until now, but since the team has applied its fully updated chassis, their new car’s pace was now up to the team’s expectations.
He clocked a 1:21.268 on a low-fuel run that is roughly half a second faster than Sergio Perez’s fastest time of the 3rd day of the final pre-season test session.
Ross Brawn stated that the team has planned to try some low fuel runs at the final days of the final pre-season test session before moving on to the season opening race in Australia that is expected to take place in more than two weeks time.
Nevertheless, the new Mercedes car’s pace cannot be compared to the new Red Bull Racing Team car “RB7” yet as they have not scored any lap times using a comparable fuel load and tyre compound.
The two Red Bull drivers scored the fastest times of the first 2 days of the final pre-season test session and by the looks of it, they have a very reliable car for the upcoming season. Probably the most reliable car Red Bull has ever produced according to Mark Webber.
Moving on, Fernando Alonso scored the 2nd fastest time of the session followed by Nick Heidfeld, Rubens Barrichello and Kamui Kobayashi in 3rd, 4th and 5th places respectively to complete the top 5 of the timesheets during the morning test session of the 4th day.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is going to be more exhilarating, dramatic and exciting as compared to the 2010 Formula 1 season by the looks of it as this is going to be the first Formula 1 season in the history of the sport to have 5 World Champions on the grid at the same time.
Nevertheless, the teams will continue the 4th day of the final pre-season test session in the afternoon in Barcelona and it would be interesting to see how the rest of the teams respond to Michael’s fastest time up until now.
