Michael Schumacher sets fastest time in Practice session 1 at Spa-Francorchamps – Formula 1 news
Mercedes GP driver Michael Schumacher topped the Friday Free Practice session one at Spa-Francorchamps on August 26, 2011 in Belgium.
After coming back from the one-month break, all the teams participated in the 2011 Belgium race weekend with hopes of improving from there. The drivers used the sets of soft and medium tyres during the first Friday Practice session.
Mercedes both drivers, Schumacher and Nico Rosberg set the first and second fastest time in morning Friday Free Practice session respectively in Belgium after running on the sets of medium and soft tyres by Pirelli. Following their runs, rain affected the
practice session and all the teams had to return to their garages.
The seven-time world champion was on the top place in the Friday Practice session one and he set the fastest time of 1 minute and 54.355 seconds on the result sheets.
McLaren’s Jenson Button finished his morning practice run at the third place behind Rosberg. Button was 8.383 seconds behind Schumacher and after struggling on the new sets of medium and soft tyres, he ended his practice session ahead of Red Bull’s Sebastian
Vettel.
Vettel was unable to impress the morning Friday Practice session, as Schumacher successfully led all the drivers during that. However, after putting all of his efforts the German came at the fourth place in the morning practice classifications.
Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton was 9.946 seconds behind Schumacher and he finished his practice run at the fifth position for the team at the Spa circuit.
Force India driver Adrian Sutil impressed the team by finishing his practice run at the sixth place ahead of Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who ended up in the seventh spot after struggling at the Spa racetrack.
Rubens Barrichello of Williams had a good time in the morning practice session and finished his run at the eighth place in the end.
Jaime Alguersuari of Toro Rosso completed 16 laps and after running on the Pirelli tyres, he came at the ninth place for his team in the morning practice classifications.
Kamui Kobayashi put Sauber at the tenth place in session.
