Michael Schumacher sets the best time in FP2 at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver Michael Schumacher has set the best time in the second free Friday practice session in 2012 Chinese Grand Prix held at Shanghai International Circuit.
The record championship holder, Schumacher took an advantage from the innovative DRS system of W03 and topped the results in FP2 in China with the time of 1 minute and 35.973 seconds.
Moreover, the veteran German driver also performed extremely well during the free practice and the qualifying of the opening two races of the season.
However, he could not be able to convert his competitive grid position into a podium finish in either of the races.
The seven-time world champion was followed by Lewis Hamilton of McLaren who set the second best time of 1 minute and 36.145 seconds. Moreover, the Briton secured consecutive poles in the first two races of the season.
Hamilton was ahead of Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who set the third best time of 1 minute and 36.160 seconds. It will be important to mention that the defending champions used older specification of exhaust layout in RB8 in order to evaluate and
improve its pace as they have not been able to explore the full potential of their car in the season so far.
Vettel was followed by his teammate, Mark Webber who set the fourth best time of 1 minute and 36.433 seconds. The Australian driver was followed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes came fifth after setting his best time of 1 minute and 36.617 seconds.
Jenson Button of McLaren came sixth with his best time of 1 minute and 36.711 seconds. The British driver was followed by Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber Ferrari who set the seventh best time of 1 minute and 36.956 seconds.
The Japanese driver remained ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India team who set the eighth best time of 1 minute and 36.966 seconds. Di Resta was followed by his teammate Nico Hulkenberg 1 minute and 37.191 seconds.
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso came tenth after setting his best time of 1 minute and 37.316 seconds. Moreover, the Spaniard said that there is still plenty of work to be done by the Scarlet team in order to be more competitive in the races ahead.
Alonso was followed by Sergio Perez of Sauber who set his best time of 1 minute and 37.417 seconds. Moreover, Perez secured an impressive second podium finish in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
Perez remained ahead of Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso who set the time of 1 minute and 37.616 seconds. Ricciardo was followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who came thirteenth after setting his best time of 1 minute and 37.836 seconds.
