Michael Schumacher still feels optimistic after 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Mercedes AMG driver Michael Schumacher has expressed that he is still feeling optimistic after his tenth place finish in 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held in Sakhir on Sunday.
The record championship holder came 18th and faced five-place grid penalty due to gearbox change after the qualifying at the Bahrain GP.
Nevertheless, he said that he is focusing on the positive aspects of his sport as he secured a reasonable tenth place finish after starting the race from 22nd place in the grid. He also stated that he is eying at the in-season test at Mugello to make the
necessary improvements in his drive on track.
“Considering where I started the race today, it's a positive that I was able to fight up to 10th place, score a point and finish a dry race this season,” he said. “The tyres obviously played a large part in the race today, we had to adapt the driving style
to keep the tyres together. It will be good to have the time now before Barcelona to sort out some issues and prepare our updates for the test days in Mugello.”
Even though, the iconic Schumacher has performed quite well in the qualifying of the first three races, however, he has not been able to convert his competitive grid position into a podium finish in any of those races. Nonetheless, he is very much positive
for the season ahead.
It would be important to note that the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn expressed that Schumacher performed convincingly well in the race at Sakhir as he still managed to finish at tenth after staring from 22nd position in the grid.
However, Brawn admitted that had they been able to make an optimal use of the car’s setup they could have performed better in the fourth race. Nonetheless, he said that he is happy with the performance of both the drivers.
Besides, he said that they are looking forward to the upcoming races and will bring out the best in them to make the substantial developments to improve the pace of W03.
“Now we can look forward to some time back at the factory to improve the car before the next race,” said Brawn.
