Michael Schumacher still uncertain of Mercedes’ pace in Montreal – Formula 1 news
Mercedes’ Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher has said that it is still unknown how his 2011 car will perform in the Canadian Grand Prix.
The seven-time Formula 1 champion also said that the double Drag Reduction System zone in Canada will also have some impact on the outcome of the race.
Schumacher is still unable to show his true potential in the 2011 Formula 1 season and is struggling to improve his performance on his return.
“It is really difficult though to have an idea of how our car will perform in Montreal. There is no doubt that Monaco was a tough weekend for the team but, as always, we will learn our lessons, and be ready to fight again in Canada,” commented Schumacher
about the race in Montreal.
The German also added that the double DRS zone will hopefully bring some thrill in the race.
Schumacher said, “The circuit itself is very much a stop-and-go scenario with much of the focus on top speed and braking. We also have the two DRS zones this year for the first time, so it will be interesting to see the impact that this makes.”
The German started the 2011 season with a crash in the opening race in Australia. In the latest encounter in Monaco, once again the Mercedes of Schumacher faced a reliability issue and came to a halt on the pit lane entrance.
The German added that the Montreal circuit is a special one for him and he will love to have a good finish in the race on Sunday.
Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn also said that he and his team are very much looking forward to the Montreal race as a winning opportunity. Brawn added that in the 2010 season, the Bridgestone tyres gave huge problems to the teams. He also said that this year’s
Pirelli tyres will again be an interesting topic in Montreal.
The seventh race of the 2011 Formula 1 season, Canadian Grand Prix, will be contested on June 12, 2011.
