Michael Schumacher struggled because he did not have a top driver simulator – Ross Brawn
Michael Schumacher was unable to give a promising performance in the 2010 Formula 1 season and did not meet up to his fan’s expectations in any way. He was unable to score a single podium position and for a 7 time world champion, that is quite embarrassing.
The 2010 Formula 1 season was the worst season statistically in Michael’s career but the German driver believes that his team will be able to perform alongside the top running teams next season.
Schumacher at first blamed the car as it was designed according to Jenson Button’s likings and that is quite understandable. Later on, he started blaming Bridgestone as he thought that they did not deliver very well with the tyres in 2010. That is understandable
as well to some extent. After that he started blaming the rule changes and then it started becoming quite absurd.
According to Ross Brawn, Michael was unable to perform at his best this year because he was not provided with the best driver simulator. It seems that Team Mercedes is not familiar with the phrase “move on”. Even Ferrari has gotten over the 2010 season even
though they lost the drivers’ title at the very last race.
“He would have been able to work much more on the behaviour of the tyres. That we do not have a top simulator was certainly not a help. We should make a big step with it over the winter. This technology cannot be bought on the market,” he said.
The team should start focussing on the 2011 Formula 1 season and of course looking at their mistakes from 2010 is going to help them a lot. But linking everything as the reason for their failure in 2010 is not acceptable. It has been over a month now and
the team should now try to focus on the 2011 Formula 1 season without any distractions.
However, Brawn stated that the new simulator will be useless before the 2012 season. Michael is hoping that the Pirelli tyres prove to be better than Bridgestone and that they suite his driving style.
“I don't know, we need a new car and the new tyres and then we can make an honest judgement. I'm optimistic. They are different tyres. When there was the change from Michelin to Bridgestone a few years ago, many drivers had problems, including top guys like
Alonso,” said Brawn when asked if next season will be better for Schumacher.
He believes that the change from Bridgestone to Pirelli is pretty good for the team and as a result, both Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher will perform a lot better as compared to their lackluster 2010 season.
He further went on to answer a few questions, including one regarding his resignation,
“The change to Pirelli will be similar and whether it plays into the hands of Rosberg or Schumacher is difficult to predict. Not yet. I will not resign until this team is successful,” he insisted.
