Michael Schumacher thinks Autodromo di Monza suits Mercedes – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has said that they can achieve competitive positions in the 2012 Italian Grand Prix as he thinks that Autodromo di Monza suits their car well.
Schumacher set the best time in the first free Friday practice session of the Italian GP. Moreover, he was very much pleased with the update package in the car and efficiently gathered the essential information to make further advancement.
Although, he could only came 10th in the timesheets in FP2 as his DRS stopped working. Nevertheless, he said that they managed to collect the necessary data during the practice sessions while he said that the track conditions seem to be in their
favour. In addition, he said that they are surely in a better position to attain promising results in the forthcoming race.
“We were able to do good work with the car all day long, and it does look reasonably promising considering the last two races that we have behind us,” Schumacher said. “[Monza] does suit the car better. The package we had developed for here seems to be more
in harmony with the track and therefore hopefully better positions can be possible.”
Besides, it will be important to note that the veteran German driver underplayed the DRS problem which he faced during the second session and asserted that their main focus was on long-run in which they were successful.
“It's not important honestly today; we did mainly focus on long run work. For single lap it didn't help not to have it, but nevertheless the long runs were reasonably good,” he added.
Additionally, he said that he felt extremely comfortable in his updated car as compared to the last three grands prix and expressed his gratitude towards his team for making all the significant step ups.
On the other hand, his teammate, Nico Rosberg has also said that he is feeling positive for the race ahead and is pleased with the balance improvement in his car.
Above and beyond, it will be interesting to see how the seven-time world champion and his compatriot perform in the remaining eight grands prix of the season.
