Michael Schumacher thinks Mercedes are not in title chase – Formula 1 news
Mercedes Michael Schumacher thinks they are not in a position to challenge for 2012 Formula 1 world championship title.
Schumacher said that after considering the performance of his team in the season so far, he believes that it will be too optimistic to say that they are in the title chase.
“I wasn't from the beginning of the year feeling that we would be in a championship fight. Maybe I'm wrong, because I mean looking at Nico's points and points I could have accounted it could have been different. But still, it's still a long year to go and
by end thinking of where we came from last year - it would be probably too optimistic to think you're in a championship situation.
He added, “I know it's the nature of Formula One and again I trust my guys 100%, and if something then fails after that then it's fate”.
The veteran German driver has been seen struggling with his race pace in the season so far as he has only scored 2 points and has retired in five out of first seven grands prix.
He struggled with the gearbox issue in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. Later, in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China, his tyre was not fitted properly during the pit stop.
Afterwards, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he faced DRS activation issue. Later on, in the sixth race at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo, he retired due to fuel pressure failure. Above and beyond, in the seventh race at Circuit
Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, he had a DRS malfunction which caused his retirement.
Although the seven-time world champion has delivered some incredible performances in the qualifying of several races, however, he could not be able to convert his competitive grid positions into a podium finish in any of the race.
Nonetheless, it will be important to mention that the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn said that they are trying their best to resolve the issues of Schumacher and are focusing to provide him with a competitive car for the forthcoming races.
Over and above, the record championship holder is not feeling upset and is positively looking forward to perform well in the European GP which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
