Michael Schumacher to guide Mercedes AMG Junior Team – Formula 1 news
Michael Schumacher will guide the Junior Team of Mercedes AMG and will perform the job of a mentor for the drivers, Christian Vietoris of Germany, Roberto Merhi of Spain and Robert Wickens of Canada.
Mercedes have revived its Junior Team this year and the seven-time world champion, Schumacher will act as a role model for this team after being in one back in 1990 with Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Karl Wendlinger.
The record championship holder said that he learnt a lot during his stay in the Junior Team of Mercedes-Benz which helped him throughout his career in F1.
“I clearly remember the early stages of my career and what I gained from my time in the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team - both on and off the track,” said Schumacher. “It taught me the best way of working with the engineers and helped me build a professional relationship
to the media.”
Furthermore, he said that he feels proud to become the member of Mercedes Junior Team. He also said that he shared some of his professional experiences with the young drivers of the team during his meeting in Barcelona.
“I'm excited to see how Christian, Roberto and Robert develop - they're certainly going to have a great time - and I enjoyed meeting them in Barcelona to offer a few tips from my own experiences. Being selected as a member of the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team
is really something to be proud of,” said Schumacher.
Schumacher made his comeback in F1 two years ago with the Brackley-based team. He struggled during the first year of his return and was completely outperformed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg.
Nevertheless, he improved his performance reasonably well in 2011 Formula 1 season with his best result of fourth place finish in Canadian Grand Prix.
It will be quite important to mention here that Mercedes has been facing immense criticism over the legitimacy of its novel F-duct design especially from the defending champions, Red Bull Racing and Lotus who have been raising questions before FIA to give
the necessary clarifications on this matter.
Nonetheless, the head of technical department of FIA, Charlie Whiting has declared it to be completely legal.
