Michael Schumacher underplays his chances of victory in 2012 European GP – Formula 1 news
Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has underplayed his chances of victory in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
Schumacher said that although they were hoping to come up strong in the Canadian GP but they faced difficulties during the race and could not secure competitive results. Moreover, he asserted that it is very hard to make any kind of predictions about the
race ahead as there have been seven different winners in the first seven grands prix.
“In Montreal we indicated it would be one of the good circuits for us and then it turned out not to be that good, so it's a question mark what this track will be,” he said. “This year I don't think it is very straightforward to predict and understand what
exactly is going well and therefore I'm little bit reluctant to say we are in a very strong position here. We hope to be in a good position but to call it victory here that would be too optimistic from my point of view after what we have seen in Canada.”
The seven-time world champion has only been able to score 2 points in the season so far and has retired in five out of first seven races. In the season opener, he struggled with the gearbox issue. Later, in the third race, he faced problem with his tyre
which was not fitted properly during the pit stop.
Afterwards, in the fourth race, he faced difficulties in DRS activation. Later on, in the sixth race, he retired due to fuel pressure failure. Over and above, in the seventh race, he struggled with the hydraulic issues which became the cause of his retirement.
Even though, the record championship holder has delivered some striking performances in the qualifying of several races, however, he could not convert his competitive grid positions into a podium finish in either of the race.
Nevertheless, the veteran German driver has expressed that he is not feeling disappointed and is confidently looking forward to perform well in the approaching race.
