Michael Schumacher unsure about his car’s pace for 2011 Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Despite the fact that the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher secured the 3rd place in the second free practice session of the 2011 Italian Grand Prix, he is still unsure about his Mercedes’ pace.
“In terms of the character of the circuit, we are usually good on braking and traction, and there are not so many of the medium and high-speed corners in which we have not been so strong this year. It certainly looks good in terms of my position today, and
I'm pleased with that; but we will only find out tomorrow what it is really worth,” he said.
It was believed that Mercedes GP would be strong at Monza since their car works well in pace and high speed. However, the team itself claims that they are still nowhere near the pace of the top running teams of the sport as a result of which they cannot
even think of securing race wins this year at least.
Other than that, the Mercedes GP driver stated that he always enjoys driving at Monza as the atmosphere is unique. He added the high-speed characteristics of the circuit offer a brilliant experience to the drivers of the sport.
“It's always a special feeling to be here in Monza. It began yesterday when I did my lap of the circuit, saw the tifosi and enjoyed the particular atmosphere of this track,” said Schumacher.
Mercedes GP have been struggling to keep up with the top running teams of the sport but they are quite clearly the best mid-running team. They are much faster than their closest rivals Lotus Renault GP who are struggling to perform well this year consistently.
Nevertheless, Sebastian Vettel was topping the timesheets at FP2 followed by Lewis Hamilton as a result of which it is believed that McLaren are going to be pretty strong this weekend. Ferrari on the other hand are looking pretty good as well as Felipe Massa
and Fernando Alonso finished in 4th and 5th places respectively.
