Michael Schumacher wants improvements for Turkey weekend – Formula 1
After the worst performance in the first three races of the 2011 season, Formula 1 Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher is looking forward to ‘improving’ on the race weekend in Turkey. He wants Mercedes to bounce back to the levels of this season’s winter
testing performance during the Turkish GP.
The seven-time World Champion had a very disappointing start to the season because he could not deliver his best run on the grid against most of the stronger rivals. Due to fuel consumption issues in his MGP-W02 machine, he could only finish his eighth fastest
run at the recent China race. His team-mate, Nico Rosberg, made an impressive run ahead of the top runners of the race. After the Chinese Grand Prix, the team was very pleased with the drivers best run, while they were also disappointed with Schumacher’s poor
performance, as Mercedes expected a more positive result from him.
The 42-years-old driver said, "It is always exciting when the calendar returns to Europe and the racing schedule becomes more intense. After returning from the first three races, I have enjoyed spending some time with my family in the short break, and I
am now really looking forward to the action getting underway again.”
Schumi also discussed the up-coming race of this season and added that Turkey has a great track and that it will provide a good challenge for all participating drivers. He further added that Istanbul Park has various corner layouts and a lot of slope changes,
so it will be ‘quite nice’ to drive on the track.
He went on to say, "I know that the team have been working very hard to continue the progress that we made during the last race weekend in China and, with the help of some developments planned for Istanbul, I am confident that we can enjoy an equally positive
weekend."
However, the team was hopeless because of its car speed, both in the Australia and Malaysia races. After leading the pace in China, they have confirmed that their car still has the potential to compete with stronger teams.
He discussed the China race weekend and appreciated the team’s good work. He said drivers learnt a lot from their recent weekend and now they are looking forward to a more positive performance to gain som supportive points.
On the other hand, Schumacher had announced his retirement with Mercedes and informed the media that he has decided to finish his three-year deal with Petronas-sponsored team and afterwards, he will work as a representative of the ‘Mercedes brand’.
The team has believes that both drivers will do better in Turkey and all will be made clear during the race.
