Michael Schumacher wants to race in New York alongside Norbert Haug – Formula 1 news
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion said in an interview that he would like to see a circuit in New York because the city is pretty ‘cool’ and that if he had the chance to pick his teammate, he would pick Norbert Haug, the vice-president of Mercedes
Benz motorsport because he is the ‘drift king.’
Norbert Haug is not a Formula 1 world champion and out of all the people, Schumacher wants him to be his teammate. However, he did add that if he had the chance to see two former world champions compete against each other from any era, he would like to see
Juan Manuel Fangio and Ayrton Senna race against each other.
Senna won the Formula 1 championship thrice while Fangio won it five times back in the early days when the sport used to be more dangerous.
Ironically, Senna died during a crash in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix when Formula 1 became quite safe. Juan on the other hand passed away a year later at the age of 84.
Michael stated that he does not want the officials of the sport to reintroduce any sort of gadget from the past but he would definitely love to see more people in the paddock. Back in the early years of the sport, the paddock used to be filled with more
people than there are now which used to create a completely different motorsport environment compared to the present.
Other than that, Schumacher like many other drivers stated that he would like to see even more overtaking in Formula 1 but he seemed quite confused when asked about his favourite track in the sport.
The former world champion was asked that if he had to drive at just one circuit for the rest of his life, which circuit would it be. The German driver quite confusingly took some names like Spa, Monte Carlo and Suzuka but in the end stated that he is not
sure.
Quite surprisingly though, Schumacher stated that he was more than happy with the teams that he drove for throughout his career and that it was more like a dream come true for him.
The Formula 1 track Michael designed was quite interesting though. “Eau Rouge, Blanchimont, the Esses from Suzuka - all are just sensational if you can drive them in a good car,” he said.
Schumacher claims that he is more interested in seeing how racing would be in the future rather than see it in the past which was quite an interesting statement as it leaves a sort of ‘question’ in one’s mind about the future of the sport.
