Michael Schumacher will be as good as ever in 2011- Jacques Villeneuve
Just at the moment when everyone else is criticising and condemning the seven times world champion, Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve steps forward in support of his old friend.
Villeneuve believes that Schumacher was just as good as his teammate, Nico Rosberg as the season reached its last twists and turns. The third-last round of the season, the Korean Grand Prix saw the German finish at 6th
place, while at the second-last round, the Brazilian Grand Prix, saw him finish at 4th, his best race finish of the season. Although Schumacher failed to finish the last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, as he met an accident in the
very first lap, Villeneuve believes that he did a pretty neat job at the end of the season, as he was able to demonstrate that he still has the power and potential, to give a threatening battle on the track.
As the season has now wrapped up, Schumacher stands in 9th place in the Drivers’ Championship with his 72 points while his teammate, Rosberg took 7th place and has bagged 142 points. Although, many believe
that the driver is disrespecting himself, Villeneuve reckons that the 41-year old made the right decision for staying on the track for another year as he believes to see him much stronger next season. He is of the view that a poor start to the 2010 season
was only because of the long break of three years, and then the uncompetitive car did not allow him to get into the right form.
Villeneuve, who beat Schumacher in 1997 to grab the first title of his career, also highlighted the fact that the driver has never actually been dominant over his teammates, even in the days of his glory. Many of the seasons actually
saw his teammates, like Rubens Barrichello, actually helping him bag points and win races.
While talking to the media this Tuesday, the Canadian said, "At Ferrari, he was one or two tenths ahead of his team-mate but rarely more. Everyone thought he was going to be a second ahead of Rosberg, but it was never even like
that in the past. If the car didn't suit him then that's hard to resolve, but at the end of the season he was there."
While further talking about the upcoming season Villeneuve said that he wanted to join back the grid this year but could not. However, he admits that the next season is going to see to be real awe-inspiring and nerve-tickling enmity
on the track. With no less than five world champions and many other great drivers, the 2011 grid seems, so far to promise a very sizzling season for the sport’s fans.
