Michael Schumacher would have still claiming victories if he stayed at Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 chief executive officer, Bernie Ecclestone believes that if Michael Schumacher had stayed in Ferrari, he would still have been claiming victories.
“I think that if he was still at Ferrari, he would still be winning today,” the F1 chief executive told Germany’s Sport Bild.
Schumacher has only been able to score 2 points in the season so far as he has been facing technical difficulties and has retired in five out of first seven races.
In the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia, he struggled with the problem of gearbox. Later, in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China, he faced problem with tyre which was not fitted properly during the pit stop.
Afterwards, in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he struggled with DRS activation issue. Later on, in the sixth race at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo, fuel pressure failure became the cause of his retirement.
Over and above, in the seventh race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, he had a DRS malfunction due to which he was retired.
Even though, the seven-time world champion has delivered some inspiring performances in the qualifying of several grands prix, however, he could not be able to convert his competitive grid positions into a podium finish in either of the race.
Nevertheless, it will be important to mention that the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn asserted that they are trying their best to resolve the issues which the record championship holder has been facing. He also said that they are aiming to provide
him with a competitive car for the forthcoming races.
“Our standards here are extremely high. We haven’t changed our approach or any of our procedures; we haven’t taken any short cuts or let the system slip in any way, so it’s been highly frustrating and peculiar. So we’re constantly looking at how we can improve
the way we work, and we can do better,” said Brawn.
Meanwhile, the veteran German driver said that he is not feeling upset with the ongoing difficulties and is confidently looking forward to perform well in the approaching races.
