Michael Skipper backs Ricky Ponting – Cricket News Update
Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting by claiming that the success achieved by the Kangaroos in recent time must be associated with having Punter on board.
The former Test skipper might have played his last innings for the national team against South Africa in the second Test match, which ended in a thrilling victory in favour of the Aussie team.
Being criticized for a lack of form over the past 12 months, Ponting played a crucial helping hand of 62, which allowed his team to level the two Test match series after trailing 1-0 from the first Test which witnessed their poorest outing in over hundred
years.
His faith is still unknown with many calling the old hand to finally retire from the game in order for youngsters to cement their place in the side. However, with the current skipper backing him, it remains to see what does future hold for the captain who
won two consecutive World Cups.
"I've made it clear that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, and I'd love to see that continue," Clarke said.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 also being on the selection panel, it gives Punter a vote of confidence in regards to his cricketing future. With tough assignments coming at home, the Australian management will have to make a tough call of whether to keep faith in the veteran
or finally part ways.
Punter’s own form over the past year or so has been disappointing as he has averaged a sluggish 20. However, Clarke feels that his record is second to none, while his off the field contributions are also unparallel.
"Ricky has 39 Test hundreds and the best batting statistics apart from (Don) Bradman as an Australian player -- if that doesn't prove something, I don't know what does. His work ethic, what he gives to the team off the field.... I'd love to see him making
more runs like all of us, but he's been a great contributor to the team on and off the field. I'd love to see that continue," added the skipper.
