Michael Snaer records double-double as Florida State beat Massachusetts 73-53: NCAA Basketball
Michael Snaer recorded a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds as Florida State Seminoles romped to a brilliant 73-53 victory over Massachusetts Minutemen on November 24 in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis
tournament.
Junior guard Snaer hit 3 for 6 from three-point range and 7 for 8 from free throw line. Luke Loucks added 12 points, stole the ball for four times, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists in the victory. Sophomore forward
Okaro White also registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three steals for the Seminoles, who are 5-0 for the second straight season.
Raphiael Putney led Massachusetts with 11 points and three rebounds while Max Esho came off the bench with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals.
It was an easy victory for the Seminoles as the trio of Snaer, Loucks, and White proved enough to clobber the opposing team.
Massachusetts shot a miserable 19 for 68 (27.9 percent) from the field and 2 for 23 from downtown. Florida State also had a rough shooting night with just 20 for 57 from the floor but they out-rebounded the rivals 47-35, in a game
that saw 45 turnovers.
Michael Snaer opened the show with a breath-taking shot from downtown as Florida State scored the game's first seven points for an initial lead. The Seminoles went through a cool stretch after the strong start as Massachusetts
took the charge with a 21-20 lead. Luke Loucks responded with a pair of free throws and Snaer made Three Point Jumper to put Florida ahead by 24-21. Javorn Farrell made a jumper to cut the deficit to two before the Seminoles reeled off an 8-2 run for a 33-25
lead at halftime.
The game was never close in the second half as Florida State maintained their double-digit lead until the final buzzer.
The Seminoles captured their fifth win of the season and will face Harvard in the second round on Friday night. Massachusetts, meanwhile, will try to get back in the winning column in their next game against Towson on November
30.
