Michael Vaughan says Nick Compton is not good enough for England – Cricket news
While http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Paul-Vaughan-c76145 believes the Somerset man should not open the batting for the side.
Compton, the 29-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, at Headingley, Leeds, managing to score 1 and 7 runs in the two innings.
In the first Test at Lord’s last week, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 batsman could manage 16 and 15 runs in the two innings, despite the hosts winning the match comprehensively by 170 runs.
Irked by a series of poor performances from Compton, Vaughan said that English selectors should not consider the former even among the top six batsmen of the country.
“It is harsh but I just do not believe Compton is among the best six batsmen in England,” wrote the 38-year-old former England skipper in his Telegraph column. “He will always struggle against high quality seam bowling outside off stump because of basic technical flaws in his batting.”
Vaughan noticed that the reason behind Compton’s struggle with the bat is that he does not get his front foot close enough to the ball.
The cricketer-turned-commentator instead backed young http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806, who is nursing a knee injury. The rookie Yorkshireman has been impressive in the middle, scoring 40, 71, 104 and 28 runs in the last four innings against the Black Caps.
He said, “Joe has a very sound technique. He has a basic forward press and backward movement that gets him into a nice neutral position to open up the front foot. It allows him to play straight down the ground…he can move over to the off side or play straight down the wicket or go back and play strongly off the back foot.”
The two-Test series against New Zealand is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013’s last Test assignment before the home leg of back-to-back Ashes series, starting in July.
