Michael Vella’s mother flying in from Australia to watch his farewell showdown – Rugby League news
The outgoing skipper of Hull Kingston Rovers, Michael Vella’s mother will fly in from Australia to watch her son’s final showdown as Robins’ skipper against the Castleford Tigers, tomorrow i.e. September 10, at the Craven Park Stadium.
This will be the Rovers last showdown of the Super League this season. By winning this encounter over Castleford, Robin will book themselves on Super League playoffs berth.
This showdown also holds significance for the departing Robins’ coach because it is his last game under his lead and it will be watched by Vella’s mother, who will fly in from Australia to watch her son’s farewell fixture.
Since childhood, Vella always had his parents’ support to perform in the world of rugby. According to him, it is always great to know that at least one of parents will witness his on-field performance.
While speaking about his mother, Vella said, “My mum went to all my games in Australia and always listens to the games on the radio. She's always supported me, as has my father, so it's good to have one of them here.”
Vella reigned in with Robins in 2007 and had all three kids of his during his stint with Robins. He also believes that his team has the potential which is not realised by any of the teams in the competition presently. He believes that his team is a dark
horse and has what it takes to achieve whatever they strive for. This is confirmed by their two recent wins against Catalan Dragons and St. Helens.
While speaking about tomorrow’s game against Castleford, the out going coach added that it is going to be a tough clash as both team are striving for the play-offs.
He stated, “We've built a lot of momentum over the last two months and we're looking to keep that going. They've had a bit of a patchy back end of the year and we believe, if we play to our best in front of a home crowd, we'll get the two points.”
