Michael Vick injured in Philadelphia Eagles loss to Washington Redskins
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick left Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins in a significant amount of pain. Vick was sandwiched between two Redskin defenders after
an impressive run that ended near the Redskins’ goal line.
After taking the snap, Vick dropped back and immediately began running toward the end zone; he made it to within inches of the goal line before Kareem Moore and DeAngelo Hall hit him.
As he stood, Vick bent at the waste and put his hands to his chest, pulling at his jersey. To make matters worse, the run was called back on a ten-yard holding penalty on offensive lineman Max Jean-Gilles.
Vick left the field with 26 seconds left in the first quarter and was replaced by Kevin Kolb. Kolb played the remainder of the game that was eventually won by the Redskins 17-12.
Vick had x-rays taken at Lincoln Financial Field, but the Eagles did not comment on what was shown on the x-rays. The only comment made was from Eagles head coach Andy Reid, who said,
“...he’s got a sore chest is what I can tell you right now.”
Vick, who was observed grimacing in pain as he put his shirt on in the locker room, had no comment about his injury.
Two unsubstantiated reports did emerge on Sunday night, with both Comcast SportsNet and NBC reporting that Vick had broken three ribs and that he would miss a significant amount of playing
time.
The Eagles quarterback will have an MRI taken on his chest on Monday.
Vick had started this season behind Kolb on the Eagles depth chart, but when Kolb went down with a concussion in the Eagles’ opening game against the Green Bay Packers, Vick took over.
Head coach Andy Reid officially named Vick the team’s starting quarterback on September 21.
