Michael Vick not completely ruled out against Atlanta
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has not completely ruled out the idea of starting Michael Vick when they take on the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday, October 17.
The injured quarterback continues to recover from a rib injury sustained in a week four meeting with the Washington Redskins. Although everyone in the Eagles camp is expecting Kevin Kolb to be the starter, no one has yet officially ruled out the possibility
of Vick making a return against his former team.
"(Vick is) still recovering," Reid said. "He started to lift some, but he's not throwing. We'll just see how he progresses. Kevin will take the reps at practice."
Vick did not practice on Wednesday, but it has been suggested that he may be ready to go by Sunday, even if he sat out the week of practice.
When asked if there was any extra motivation to come back with the prospect of playing against his former team, Vick dismissed the idea and suggested that a game against the Falcons is the same as any other game.
"There's no extra motivation just because it's Atlanta week. I feel like we passed that last year...It's just another football game against a tough opponent."
Vick was involved in two touchdowns – one passing and one rushing – when the Eagles beat the Falcons 34-7 last season.
Before getting injured in week 4, Vick had come into the lineup to replace Kolb, who suffered a concussion in week one. Vick was impressive in the four games he played and is currently ranked second in the NFL with a passer rating of 108.8, just behind the
New England Patriots' Tom Brady.
Kolb has since recovered from his concussion and returned to action when Vick went down, and will likely get the start on Sunday as the Eagles look to improve on their 3-2 record.
