Michael Vick returns to backup duty for Week 3
Despite an impressive start on Sunday, it appears Michael Vick will not be the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles this week. Eagles coach Andy Reid stated on Monday that
Kevin Kolb will get the start this Sunday when the Eagles battle the Jacksonville Jaguars. There are reports that Vick may begin the game at wide receiver and will play in the Eagles version of the wildcat offence.
After missing the second-half in the season-opener against the Green Bay Packers after suffering a concussion, Kolb has been cleared to practice and will start unless he suffers a setback
"All I can do is deal with what's on the field, and that's me getting out there,” Kolb said. “I'm anxious to get back on the field Wednesday for a practice and it starts there, and then
going and getting a win against Jacksonville. I think if I just stay focused on those things and just play my game, then we'll be fine."
Coach Reid also commented on his unique quarterback situation.
"I think it's a beautiful situation," Reid said Monday. "I look at it a lot differently than other people look at it.
"I've got two quarterbacks that can play at a very important position. I'm a happy guy about it. There are a lot of teams that don't have good quarterbacks, ones that they feel like they
can win with, and I feel like we can with both of those guys."
In his first start in nearly four years, Vick led the Eagles to a 35-32 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Vick threw for 284 yards including two touchdown passes. In the season open,
after coming on for Kolb in the second half, Vick was equally impressive and almost helped the Eagles overcome a 17-point deficit in a 27-20 loss to the Packers. In two quarters of work against the Packers, Vick threw for 175 yards with one touchdown pass
and also ran for 103 yards.
"I'm very proud of him," Reid said. "It's a true testament that if you work hard, you keep your nose clean, good things can happen.
"And he's worked very hard at doing both those things and I'm proud of the way he led the football team."
