Michael Vink fails to impress the World Tour teams for the fourth consecutive season
Michael Vink is still to make his professional debut as the cyclist continued his fourth consecutive season at the initial level of cycling.
He started cycling with Subway Avanti Pro Cycling Team in 2009 and helped the squad with a number of victories during his first year with the Amateur side.
Vink also rode for Isorex Cycling Team (2010), Trek-Livestrong Team (2011), Mico-Protrain Cycling Team (2011-2012) and joined VL Technics-Abutriek Cycling Team for the 2012 season.
He won the Under 23 National Road Race Championships in 2011 and finished second during the 40 kilometre Time Trial event.
Michael won the 2012 Under 23 National Road Race Championships and set the new course record at the race.
The 20-year-old is clearly taking his performance to the new level every year but he is yet to find a place at the top level of sport.
He cited, "I’ve always been motivated by the challenge. Whatever I’ve done I’ve wanted to be the best I can, and for cycling that means turning professional. So that’s always been the goal".
The cyclist will start his 2012 season with Team VL Technics and is eyeing the Beverbeek Classic for the season ahead.
He will move to Belgian for the later part of the season and is hopeful to ride the UCI 1.2 races.
Michael briefed that he loves riding in Belgium, "Those areas are generally where I’ve enjoyed myself the most".
He continued, "I’ve been time trialling for a long time, so I guess it comes a bit more naturally to me than perhaps others, but I really like 'tour' racing, and I think that’s where I can do well in the future".
Vink is positive to secure a professional contract to step up the ladder in his young career.
His mental and physical maturity is a clear indication that the cyclist will earn a spot in a professional team pretty soon.
Michael aims to join Jesse Sergent, George Bennett, Hayden Roulston, Jack Bauer, Greg Henderson and Julian Dean at the top level of the game.
There is no doubt about the tremendous abilities of the young Kiwi rider and it will be interesting to see if he manages to secure a place in a World Tour Team.
