Michael Weiss secures Men’s 400m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Michael Weiss of Wisconsin Aquatics secured gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on first day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Friday, June 8.
Weiss remained prominent over his challengers from the beginning and proved his supremacy over his opponents by acquiring the title of the discipline.
He encountered strong battle from Jean Basson of Tucson Ford Deal in the 400m event but with his fascinating efforts, he managed to cruise his way towards the finishing wall for first position.
With his persistent efforts, Weiss secured gold medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 00.20 seconds.
The champion was followed by Basson, who stayed 0.76 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 00.96 seconds.
The silver medallist remained 1.07 seconds faster from his following swimmer Ryan Kao of La Mirada Armada, who stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 02.03 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Alexander Nickell of Loveland Swim Club, who stayed 1.42 seconds away from overpowering his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 03.45 seconds.
Nickell was chased by Marcus Guttmann of Wisconsin Aquatics, who was just 0.08 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as fifth best finisher with an effort of 4 minutes and 03.53 seconds.
Subsequently, Guttmann was chased by Brock Redondo of Trojan Swim Club, who stayed 0.13 seconds apart and finished his swim in sixth best place by producing a time of 4 minutes and 03.66 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Cory Mayfield of La Mirada Armada, who hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 04.18 seconds.
Mayfield was trailed by Reed Malone of New Trier Swim Club, who failed to upset any of his competitors and earned eighth position with the timing of 4 minutes and 04.81 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all planned events while the winners raked medals at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
