Michael Yani downs Frank Moser to reach the final qualifier round –Hall of Fame Championships 2011
American veteran, Michael Yani, toiled hard before taking down the German opponent, Frank Moser, in the second round of the qualifying draws of the Campbell Hall of Fame Tennis Championships. Yani manoeuvred his way through the
contest, finishing the matchup in straight sets 7-6(6), 6-4, to move one step closer to the main draws of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 tournament.
34-year-old Moser hung in the contest for one hour and twenty three minutes before submitting the game in the second set. The German fought very hard in the opener to drag it in to the tie breaker round but eventually crumbled
in the pressure situation to drop the set. Moser tended to lose his steam in the next set and bestowed victory over the strong American opponent in straight sets.
Yani exhibited his tremendous agility in the contest, denying his age of 30 years and traced down the occasional drop shots from his opponent with great anticipation. His 67 per cent precise serve earned him 34 out of 49 first
serve points in the game, with five thudding aces. The American crafted only one break opportunity in the matchup and converted it rightfully in to seal victory towards the conclusion of the second set.
Moser’s unforced errors, which include six crucial double faults as well, wore him out in the later parts of the contest. His errant stroke play proved very taxing for him, as he sprayed plenty of miss-hit shots all over the court,
costing him the match in the end.
The German had a positive start to the competition; firing seven cracking aces right up but committing four double faults as well. He held serve in all the games and frittered away the two breaking opportunities in the opening
set, moving on neck-to-neck with Yani. Both men failed to break the opponent’s serve, enforcing a mandatory tie breaker round to decide the opener. Moser laboured hard in the decider but a mini-break from Yani took him to the set point, which he took by belting
a fiery forehand winner down the line at 7-6(6).
The dejected German failed to put up the similar fight which he posed in the opening set and appeared frustrated, committing plenty of errors. A single serve break proved enough for Yani to conclude victory at 6-4 and moved into
the final round of qualifying draws, where he will face the third seed Andre Begemann of Germany for a place in the main draws.
