Michael Yani overpowers Farrukh Dustov in the first round – Seoul Challenger 2012 CH
World number 217, Michael Yani, outmuscled the Uzbek contestant, Farrukh Dustov, in the first round of the Samsung Securities Cup Challenger 2012 on the eve of Tuesday. The American consolidated his straight sets win 6-2, 6-3 in
49 minutes on the hard courts of Deco-Turf, Korea.
The right-hander Dustov held his first serve in the opening set and brought the score line to 1-0. However, it immediately levelled down it to 1-1 in the very next game and the pattern continued again in the fourth game, when the
Uzbek professional again squared it to 2-all in the fourth game. American proved his potential when he started to race forward to dissolve his challenger’s serve in the fifth and seventh game respectively. He swiftly started to bag away all the points and
the Uzbek started becoming insignificant. Yani maintained his superior performance as the game progressed, warding off all the break points and converted the last two break chances, making the situation go in his advantage. As he did not receive a single
hindrance, he cashed away the lead with a 6-2 score.
In the second set, both the rival held their serves for the first part but 31-year-old American star dissolved his competitor’s serve in the third game and marked a 3-1 lead. He confidently drew the first blood against his Uzbek
junior, who was completely dormant. The American veteran made a powerful retort towards the end, attaining a critical break and wonderfully reeled off all the points to conclude the set with a 6-3 win.
Ranked 228th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Dustov, fired four aces and committed double faults three times on the trot. He had a relatively better initial serve of 67 percent, converting 15 of 18 first and one of nine
second serve points. On the other hand, the right-hander American participant had 61 percent initial serve precision, converting all 11 of first and five of seven second delivery points.
For the next round, the higher ranked American player will face the winner of the match between Oleksandra Nedovesov and the fifth seeded, Kenny De Schepper.
