Michael Yani prevails over Syed Mohd Agil Syed Naguib in second qualifier – Malaysian Open 2012  
American veteran, Michael Yani, defeated the local challenger, Syed Mohd Agil Syed Naguib and confidently marched to the final qualifying round of the Malaysian Open 2012 held at the hard courts of Kuala Lumpur.
Yani jolted his straight sets, 7-5, 6-1 win nearly one hour and 12 minutes.
The Malaysian underdog exhibited a remarkable game plan since the start of the opener and provided the American challenger with a tough competition. He held his initial serve the set and drew the first blood
but Yani smashed back, levelling the scores line in the very next match. Both players effectively provided each other with a tough deal and preserved their serve for the major part of the set. The Malaysian challenger restlessly fought against his rival and
evened out the score line three times. Towards the end, Yani broke Naguib’s serve and swiftly grabbed the last two games, closing the set with a 7-5 lead.
Ranked 241st in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Yani, manifested 67 percent first serve accuracy, with 18 of 24 first and eight of 12 second serve points. The local challenger had 62 percent
initial serve precision with 14 of 23 first and nine of 14 second delivery points. He could not even attain a single serve break, whereas the American secured the one bestowed on him.
The 18-year-old, Naguib, was unable to counter back his rival with the same zeal. The right-hander American contested against his rival with a strong resolve to clinch the ultimate win. He dominated throughout
the set without facing even a single setback. On the other hand, Naguib could not even hold his serve once and without much delay, bestowed a 6-1 win on the American.
The 31-year-old, Yani, drastically improved his performance in the set and had 79 percent initial serve presentation with 10 of 11 first and two of three second delivery points. Naguib attained 53 percent first
serve presentation, converting eight of 17 first but only six of 15 second serve deliveries. He could not snatch even a single break point but Yani pocketed away three of eight points.
For the next round, the American professional will encounter the Indian, Sanam Singh.
