Michael Young moves to 101 RBIs as Texas Rangers beat Cleveland Indians 7-4
Thursday, September 15 was one of the most important days for Michael Young as the Texas Rangers slashed the Cleveland Indians with a 7-4 victory at Rangers Ballpark.
Texas’ Young managed to cross 100 RBIs for the second time in his career when he produced a three run double against Cleveland’s Fausto Carmona in the bottom of the fifth.
Rangers went into the fixture with two, back-to-back victories, over the Indians. On Tuesday, Justin Masterson faced the fury of the Rangers’ hitters. Then on Wednesday, David Huff gave up eight runs in the fourth to lose the game for the Cleveland. On Thursday,
Carmona became the latest victim of the Texans as the home team ate up five runs in the fifth.
The Cleveland hurler went for six runs off seven hits and five walks. Carmona was able to pick up three strike-outs but that did little to restrain his earned runs average from reaching 5.26. He is now 6-15, in the season.
One man who did have the best time on the mound was Alexi Ogando. The former bullpen reliever moved onto his 13th win of the season when he pitched six innings, allowing just two hits and two walks. His current earned runs average dropped to 3.58
and he is looking stronger as a starter.
Indians’ manager Manny Acta will not be pleased to see his club crash out of the contest. His men went down early in the game when the Rangers scored through Endy Chavez. The Texan centre-fielder, in for David Murphy, got the run when Elvis Andrus managed
a single on a line drive to left-fielder Shelley Duncan.
Things began to crumble for the Indians as Carmona faltered again in the fifth. Chavez kicked off things with a single and a second base steal. Ian Kinsler was moved to first on a walk. Andrus sacrificed himself to move the two men on the bases, further
up. Josh Hamilton was then allowed to walk to fill up the bases with Rangers’ players. Unfortunately for Carmona things got ugly as Young entered the stage.
The Texan designated hitter got his club to a 4-0 with a triple run RBI double. The damage was done and it looked like things would soothe down. However that perception proved wrong as Adrian Beltre came on to the strike zone to smash a two run homer. The
score had quickly risen to 6-0.
Indians responded with Carlos Santana, who scored the club’s first when Alexi Ogando was replaced on the mound with Darren Oliver. The catcher managed to run home when Duncan pushed a single to centre-field.
Rangers were not out of contention as they quickly responded with Josh Hamilton in the bottom of the seventh. The fiery hitter smashed a homer to the right to raise the score to 7-1. The Indians were however still intending to fight back and they scored
in the eighth through Jason Donald. The player got the nod to run home on an Ezequiel Carrera single.
The situation however was not looking to change and the Indians did their best in the top of the ninth as they pulled in two more runs through Grady Sizemore and Duncan, who got the push to home from a Lou Marson double.
The score ended in a 7-4 victory for the Rangers as Young crossed 100 RBIs for the second time in his career.
