Michael Young reveals the logic behind leaving Texas Rangers and joining Philadelphia Phillies-MLB
36-year old, Michael Young, has explained why leaving the Texas Rangers was a better choice for him.
He has pointed out his concern of being disallowed to play as many at-bats as he was being promised by the Rangers as the reason why the Philadelphia Phillies are a better place for him.
Young has a large fan-base that wants to see him end his career while wearing the Rangers’ uniform. After his departure from there and being traded to the Phillies, fans are extremely disappointed.
He had the no-trade option mentioned in his contract. Yet, he decided against staying with the Texas.
Young's disregard for the wishes of the fans could be embarrassing for them, unless they were told the rationale that motivated Young to take the decision.
This is exactly what Young has done now. By clarifying the logic behind the move, he has tried to win the hearts of those fans that could otherwise develop feelings of antagonism towards him.
Young has revealed that the Phillies will provide him much more playing time at third base, unlike the designated hitting role that he performed for the Rangers in the last season.
Young wants to be an everyday player and a contributor toward the success of the team.
The Phillies have responded positively to the enthusiasm of Young. By letting him man the third base permanently, at least from the start of the next season, they have shown their trust in his abilities.
Young is counted amongst the best hitters of the game. He is currently the leader of the Rangers in terms of the highest number of hits struck by any of their players in the entire history of the franchise.
Apart from the unimpressive 2012 season campaign, he has been excellent over the years. If his form returns next year, the Phillies can stay assured that someone is going to lift them to glory in an incredible fashion.
Young dislikes being rotated within the infield quite often as he was asked for it on a number of occasions while playing for the Rangers. He is confident that he will not be treated this way by the Phillies.
“Switching around the field is tough, it is really hard,” Young said. “It’s just really tough to stay in a rhythm when you’re doing different things on defense. ... I’d be with Adrian Beltre, the best defensive third baseman I have ever seen. In spring training,
he’d be taking groundball after groundball after groundball. I’d be right there with him, and then I’d go pick up my second base glove and go over there. So I missed out on countless reps. Doing an equal amount of work, but at different spots.”
The Phillies’ fans will be excited about an entry of a star in their team. It will be interesting to see how Young meets their expectations.
