Michael Young speaks with reporters after crossing 100 RBIs for second time in his career
Michael Young was recently available after the Thursday, September 15 game between the Texas Rangers and the Cleveland Indians at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The designated hitter was instrumental in guiding the Texans to a 7-4 victory over the visitors
and his three-run double in the bottom of the fifth got the star over 100 RBIs in the season, for the second time in his career.
Young has been the longest serving Rangers’ star in the line-up and his role still brings home what the organisation needs. The Rangers were up against Cleveland’s Fausto Carmona and they were in search for the second run in the fifth.
The Indians’ hurler was caught off-guard and he walked Ian Kinsler and Josh Hamilton to a bases loaded situation. Young then came in to steer the players home with a blitzing double.
"[Carmona] had been throwing really well early in the game, so at that point we were just trying to get one run across," Young said. "My at-bat, I was trying to get something to the outfield. Worst-case scenario, sacrifice fly scores a run."
The star was later guided home by his season replacement club member, Adrian Beltre, who smashed a two-run homer. Young has been looking good so far in the season and his statistics are favourable for a continued role in the club. With Beltre on third base,
Young may not have a role in the infield but his hand on the bat seems strong enough to make him a dominant figure.
The star spoke freely about his impression of the hallmark he has achieved again for the second time in his career.
"It doesn't mean too much for me right now," Young said. "I'll look back at it when the season's over and be happy about it. Anytime you're talking about runs and RBIs, it's more a reflection of the team, the guys I'm knocking in."
The player is currently on 101 RBIs, 80 runs, 11 home-runs and a .334 batting average.
