Michael Young wanted to stay with Texas Rangers all through his career-MLB Update
Infielder, Michael Young has unveiled his desire to end Major League career with the Texas Rangers after he has been traded by them to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Before the Rangers began discussing his trade, he was fairly optimistic that he would wear only one uniform throughout his baseball journey.
Unfortunately, he has failed to earn the distinction of beginning and winding up his career while playing for an only one organisation.
Recently, third baseman, Chipper Jones retired after playing for 19 Major League seasons for the Atlanta Braves.
He won laurels for the team multiple times. When he announced his retirement, media spotlight came rushing at him. Various events were organised to acknowledge his unforgettable contributions for the Braves.
He was respected not only by the Braves, but all over the baseball world for being loyal to a single team and not a rolling stone.
That is the kind of prestige that every baseball player looks for. Indeed, Young is no exception.
Although Young had no-trade clause in his agreement, he did not use this option purposefully.
If he somehow managed to stay with the Rangers by invoking no-trade, he would play, most probably, as bench player.
It was for that reason he chose to move to the Phillies. The Phillies have promised with him to be playing for them at third base as a regular everyday player as opposed to a back-up man.
Understandably so, he is upbeat to deliver for the Phillies. Though disappointed for leaving the Rangers, he has found the Phillies as an equally high profile organisation to play for.
"It's a championship-caliber team," Young said. "I'm looking forward to being a part of it. You have guys on that team that have World Series rings. I've played big games. I know what the October experience is like. At the end of the day, this is what I
do. I'm a competitor. I'm a competitor before I'm a baseball player. I have a new opportunity right in front of my face. I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait. I'm looking forward to the challenge."
It is nothing short of a challenge for Young to live up to the expectations of the officials of the Phillies.
