Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director is wary of the threat the Dutch champions can cause in their opening UEFA Champions League fixture next week.
The German champions have been drawn in the ‘Group of Death’ with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax Amsterdam. The Black Yellows had a miserable European campaign last term also as they ended the group stages at
the bottom of the group.
Things look more difficult this time round as Real Madrid and Manchester City look favourites to progress from the group to the next round. However, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Zorc is confident that his side can prove the doubters wrong with an impressive
showing this time around.
Dortmund host Ajax at the Signal Iduna Park next week for their first Champions League fixture and the sporting director feels that a winning start can give his side great confidence for the remainder of the season. He admitted
that Jose Mourinho’s side are the favourites to win the group, and that his side may have to fight for a second spot.
“We will do all we can to survive the group. We know we have our qualities, but we also know Real Madrid are favourites in this unique constellation, with four current champions and three former Champions League winners,” he was
quoted as saying in an interview.
Zorc insisted that winning against Ajax will not be easy as the Dutch giants also have a great squad. He added that his side will need to work really hard to achieve all three points and start the campaign on a winning note.
“It is going to be hard work. We need to leave the door open to advance, and therefore we need to beat Ajax at home next week. It is about the three points,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund have won the last two Bundesliga campaigns and have been the superior side to Bayern Munich in domestic competitions recently. However, the Bavarian giants have clearly been the better team when it comes to European
competitions. The Reds reached their second Champions League final in three years last term, but lost at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
