Michael phelps is great but is it just my impression that the media?

has overdone it. his mother seems to get and enjoy a lot of camera time. the equally unbelievable run of bolt 9.69 gets very little press.the media seem to be mindless parrots always reinterating the same stories.

Your question is a very legitimate one. But the media is going to cover what they feel the audience wants. Right now there's Michael mania running rampant, so the coverage is going to be there. Give it a day or two for the Track and Field coverage to take over and they'll get their day in the sun. The only problem is, will any of the track performances rival what Michael did? I really doubt it.

Plus Michael won with humility while Bolt was show boating, gloating, and disrespecting his opponents as he crossed the finish line. Few of us like to watch that type of behavior. Being American (more accurately a US representative) doesn't hurt Michael any either.

Actually Bolt's 9.69 did get press and many of the track athletes Mothers and family got press as well.

However, you have an excellent point about 'reiterating the same stories' !

Hum well Phelps is american !! That answers it all.

But i totally agree with you, im just tired of NBC, all the fuss over Phelps i mean he won 8 medals that's great, he will get lots of endorsments, interviews when he gets back but NOW moving on ! there are other sports, even going on.

And i love BOLT ! i'm so surprised americans don't even care about him. Why so self-centered ?

And When american swimmers won the relay 4*100M they screamed the h**l out of their bodies, they didn't go tap the other players and stuff. They were happy they won, they were proud because they worked hard for it. JUST LIKE BOLT; So please stop criticizing bolt.

Ah but i guess chickens will have teeths when americans start thinking about something other than themselves.

Phelps has won 8 medals.... 14 Olympic gold medals in total. Usain Bolt has won 1. The media are following him at the moment because there is a lot of attention around him right now. Once the swimming in the games are over and things return to normal, the press will cut down on him as well, and focus on other things, such as the amazing Bolt! =D

No its not just your impression. It has gotten irritating. I want to see sports action, not bios on these athletes. Last night 30 mins on talking to him his couch, then I turned back to it and it was he and his mom. Sheesh enough already, there is more going on there in Beijing then them. Actually I have never liked NBC's coverage on sports. They always cut away for these small little bios, and interrupt the action. If I wanted to know what happened to an athelete 3 years ago, I will buy their book, or check out their website.

nbc even said it themselves once michael phelps and swimming is done there viewers are going way down. so they are trying to squeeze in as much phelps as they can till the games are over.

i stopped watching them once he was done swimming.

Well i really dont think so I mean he was the only athlete that was even close to getting that record of the most golds so it wasnt just a record for the sport of swimming it was a record for being the best olympian ever!!
