Michaela Honcova conquers Katarzyna Kawa in final qualies – Slovak Open 2011
Eighth seeded Slovakian Michaela Honcova sent unseeded Pole Katarzyna Kawa to the lockers in the final qualifying round of the Slovak Open 2011.
At the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia, on indoor hard courts the two players had duelled and after just forty eight minutes the eighth seeded Slovakian whitewashed the unseeded Pole by defeating her in a flawless straight sets victory of 6-1, 6-0 on Monday the 14th of November 2011.
Although both the sets were dominated by Honcova, the first set was a near flawless victory. The Slovakian had targeted only 63 percent of her first serves but had skilfully managed to bag a hundred percent of her first service points. Even though, she had poor first return points, she had tactfully bagged an exceptional 76 percent of her second return points won.
In addition, she did not setup a single break point opportunity for her adversary and instead managed to capitalize on three breakpoints. With almost twice as many total points won, she bagged the opening set.
Kawa was serving first for the opening round and she got off to a pitiable start as she was unable to bag a game for the first five games. On the other hand, Honcova had not only bagged all her service games but managed to reel off straight five games to place herself on the scoreboard with a mini lead of 5-0 at the end of the fifth game.
It was during the sixth game that Kawa had finally managed to hold her serve but it was too late in the set as Honcova was only a game away from clogging the opening set and as she served for the match, she smashed a marvellous backhand winner down the line to go one up in the match by bagging a breadstick victory of the opening game.
As she powered through the opening round, she set the tone for the second set. Commencing the second round was Honcova and this time she completely thrashed her adversary by accomplishing not only all her service games but also her adversary’s.
Moreover, she accomplished a hundred percent of her total service points won in the second set and with an exceptional return; she achieved a walloping 63 percent of her total return points won. On the contrary, Kawa was unable to rise to the occasion and had a poor serve along with a pathetic return.
Nonetheless, the eighth seeded Slovakian was cheered on by the crowd as she accomplished to reserve a spot in the main draw of the tournament.
