Michaela Tabb playing referee in 2012 World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
After the finish of the 2012 China Open snooker tournament, the top guns of snooker are looking forward to make an appearance in the upcoming 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. As far as the refereeing is concerned, one
of the renowned referees in World Snooker, Scotland’s Michaela Tabb will be playing referee in the finals.
Being a part of one of the snooker’s most prestigious event is a dream of every individual who is associated to the sport in any way. From potters to officials, everybody looks up to become a cooperating member of the World Championship. This year’s World
Snooker Championship is bringing another opportunity for the female referee to show her expertise in the event’s final.
The 44-year-old Tabb will be refereeing in her third World Snooker Championship after she made her debut in the final of 2003 World Championship where she presided over Mark King and Drew Henry. She appeared in the final match of World Championship again
in 2009 where she refereed over the four-time World Snooker Champion John Higgins and the 2012 China Open winner Peter Ebdon.
The Scottish snooker official is quite elated for managing the final game at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield as officiating the World Championship finals is quite an honour for any referee.
Speaking to World Snooker on her appearance in the World Championship, Tabb said, “I was absolutely elated when I found out I was doing it again this year. Loved it when I did the final in 2009. It went really well for me without any mistakes so I just hope
it will be the same this time.”
She added, “It's such a huge tournament with a lot of history and potentially hundreds of millions of people watching on television. The good thing about the Crucible is that once you get to the semi-finals and the one table set-up, you breathe a sigh of
relief because there is so much more room to move around. In the early rounds it's really difficult because it is so tight for space.”
The Championship will commence from April 21 and will conclude on May 7 at the Crucible Theatre.
