Michaella Krajicek defeats Anne Kremer in straight sets at the 2011 BMW Malaysian Open quarterfinals
Dutch player Michaella Krajicek ousted Anne Kremer of Luxembourg in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 at the quarterfinals of the 2011 BMW Malaysian Open, to set up a semi-final match with Australian World Number 91 Jelena Dokic. Krajicek, who is 22 years old, took
less than an hour and thirty minutes to defeat her opponent.
The Dutch World Number 150 stayed on top of her 35-year-old opponent throughout the match, refusing to give her the opportunity to break through during the match. Krajicek started off the first set exceptionally well, scoring one ace and converting three
of five break points successfully within the first 45 minutes of the match. She also scored a whopping 63 percent of the total points in the set to undo Kremer in eight service and return games apiece.
Anne Kremer, currently ranked World Number 169, did her best to extend the match into a tie-breaker in the second set. However, Krajicek was determined to thwart this effort; the Dutch player scored three aces and was only broken once, although she converted
two of four break points against Kremer. She took the second set 6-3 by scoring 56 percent of the total points in the set.
All in all, Krajicek scored a total of four aces and converted five of nine break points in the match. She also won 70 of 119 points in the set, winning the match 6-2, 6-3.
This is Michaella Krajicek’s first victory over Anne Kremer, bringing their total head-to-head record to 2-1 for Kremer. Their last match was held in the 2007 Luxembourg event, where Kremer defeated Krajicek 6-3, 7-6(3) in the round of the last 32. They
had also competed against each other in the 2007 Australian Open tournament, where Kremer scored a 6-4, 6-3 victory over her opponent.
Michaella Krajicek will now compete against Dokic in the semi-finals. The Aussie defeated 19-year-old Serbian pro and World Number 55 Bojana Jovanovski in straight sets 7-6(4), 6-3 in their quarterfinal match at the tournament.
