Michaella Krajicek dispenses out Beatriz Garcia Vidagany from qualifiers of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
22-year-old Michaella Krajicek from Netherlands ousted the Spaniard, Beatriz Garcia Vidagany in the final round of the qualifying draws of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, played at the Porsche Tennis Arena at Stuttgart, Germany
on Monday. The 140th ranked Dutch wrapped up the straight sets victory 6-0, 6-4, in one hour and twenty two minutes to book a berth in the main draws of the $721,000 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) event.
An amazing display of Dutch dominance was seen throughout the contest, beating Vidagany in every segment of the game. Krajicek had a blazing start in the opening set, sweeping off her opponent with three straight serve breaks to
wind up the opener in less than 40 minutes. The Spanish posed a little resistance in the next set but couldn’t withstand the sheer brilliance of Krajicek, eventually submitting the contest in the tenth game.
The Dutch ignited the opener in a blistering way, striking a serve break in the very first game to put early pressure upon her opponent. She served with 67 per cent precision and nabbed 12 of 15 total serve points in the first
set. Vidagany’s bleak defence was breached a number of times by the aggressive Dutch opponent, who made frequent forays to the net and converted many volleys into elegant cross-court winners.
The Spaniard captured just 33 per cent total points in opening set and her six double faults exacerbated her position in the game. Vidagany’s sloppy footwork was not good enough to anticipate the forceful strokes from Krajicek,
who kept cracking winners down the line on regularity. The Dutch broke her opponent in all of her serve games and rocketed away to set points at 5-0 in no time. Vidagany had no option but to submit the game to her superior competitor at 0-6 and stay on the
back foot.
Signs of aggression and determination were observed in the Spaniard in the second set, as she bounced back at Krajicek with her 70 per cent first serve. She constructed three break opportunities in the second set and availed all
of them to release pressure from her. However, the crafty Dutch proved too good for Vidagany and registered four serve breaks to nullify her advantage and secure victory for her. Krajicek converted her first match point and sealed the contest at 6-4 to make
her way to the main draws of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
She will be squaring off against the world number 32, Julia Goerges of Germany in the first round clash at Stuttgart.
